This is an all-important vessel in every South Indian kitchen that promotes slow cooking. It is handcrafted using splendid and pure tin metal sheets called as “Velli eeyam” in Tamil. These vessels gives an unsparing taste to “rasam” made commonly in houses.

ADVANTAGES

  • Though this is a purposive vessel for making different types of South-Indian RASAM or SAARU, it can also be used to make watery soups and curries.
  • Our ancestors used these conventional tin pots for storing leftover foods, setting curds and steady fermentation of batters.
  • Cooking food in tin utensils not only retain the utmost nutrients, but also add an exclusive natural flavour in the food after cooking.
  • They do not react with food acids and hence do not cause any food discolouration or impart odour in the cooked food.
  • They evenly distribute and retain heat.
  • They are natural, durable and eco-friendly!
  • They are available in different capacities to suit your needs.

TRADITIONAL VALUE

  • These hard and malleable pots are gently handcrafted by ingenious artisans.
  • Pure tin sheets are modelled and hammered by hand to make the pots of utmost size and thickness.
  • Its heaviness equalises the sturdiness and longevity of the product.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Tin metal is very much malleable, hence starts melting around 230 degree celsius. Best to use them upon very low flame or charcoal stove. They cannot be used directly upon burning wood fire.
  • Never put your tin utensil upon a direct flame/heat without any liquid substance. Fill at least half of the vessel with liquid before switching on the flame.
  • Because liquids support even distribution of heat and also introduce them to gradual rise of heat temperatures.
  • Even with liquids, avoid putting the tin vessels upon high flame.
  • Do not use metal tongs or holders to lift these pots. Instead use only soft cloth or mitten to remove the vessel after switching off the flame!
  • Do not touch hot vessels with bare hands, as they cause long lasting heat burns.
  • Use wooden ladles/spatulas and avoid stirring with metals.Tin vessels cannot be used for prior-tempering or tadka using oils. Tempering shall be made separately and poured into the food pots.
  • Do not use heavy detergents/abrasives, as they might retain within the utensils and get leached into the food.
  • These tin pots might tend to change their shape when dropped or with improper care.
  • Finally, never leave tin vessels unattended upon gas burner.
